Travel Time

Refer to this page for travel times between cities and the myriad of vehicles available for such. Until otherwise noted, this article is under construction and is subject to change at a moment's notice.

The Map

Just how big is one 'square' on the map, in-character? The answer to that is fortunately simple! Unless otherwise specified, each of Ragnarok Online's maps is roughly 100 square miles (160 square km). That means that moving through one involves moving about 100 miles in most cases! With that simple number put into place, all that remains is determining just how many miles (or km) your character can move in one hour. See 'Vehicles' below for more details on that.

Vehicles

Many vehicles exist within Aurora, and several of them are exclusive to one or more countries as well. The only 'vehicle' that's available everywhere is your own two legs… But some places (like the desert, or a particularly dangerous wilderness) might be a little too dangerous to walk in anyway. Below you'll find a list of the many vehicles available on Aurora, as well as their general speeds and movement! Movement with any vehicle assumes you're travelling exactly 12 hours out of every day.

Walking or Hiking

  • Average Cost: Free!
  • Travel Speed: 5 miles per hour (8 km per hour)
  • Availability: Everywhere

Carriage or Peco

  • Average Cost: Negligible
  • Travel Speed: 20 miles per hour (32 km per hour)
  • Availability: Midgard, The Emirates

Boat

  • Average Cost: Expensive (Personal ownership)
  • Average Cost: Negligible (In cities with ports)
  • Travel Speed: 20 miles per hour (32 km per hour)
  • Availability: Everywhere

Car

  • Average Cost: Very Expensive (Personal ownership)
  • Travel Speed: 30 miles per hour (48 km per hour)
  • Availability: The Republic, Ba Jin (restricted), El Quattor Grande

Train

  • Average Cost: Negligible (In cities with stations)
  • Travel Speed: 60 miles per hour (96 km per hour)
  • Availability: The Republic, Ba Jin, El Quattor Grande

Airship

  • Average Cost: Ludicrously Expensive (Personal ownership)
  • Average Cost: Negligible (In cities with ports)
  • Travel Speed: 30 miles per hour (48 km per hour)
  • Availability (Ports): The Republic, El Quattor Grande
  • Special Notes: This is also the speed at which characters with Flight can move.
  • Special Notes: Airships may move diagonally on the map, as they require no path.

Airship Shuttle

  • Average Cost: Ludicrously Expensive (Personal ownership)
  • Average Cost: Restricted (in cities with ports)
  • Travel Speed: 60 miles per hour (96 km per hour)
  • Availability (Ports): The Republic (Military Only), Ba Jin (Military Only), El Quattor Grande
  • Special Notes: Airships may move diagonally on the map, as they require no path.

Further Notes

It's important to know that all GMs reserve the right to fast-forward or skip travel time in the interest of preserving atmosphere and pace within certain event chains and episodes! Having to wait a week between every event in what should be a tense situation, for instance, could kill the mood a considerable amount.

So don't worry if your group goes from Glastheim to Alberta in a single event! In some cases, it's just better to skip these times in the interest of scheduling and tone.
